Tania di Mario
Her career was destined to be spend between lane dividers, but Tania di Mario, a young Roman born on May 4, 1979, decided, at the age of 15, that her true passion was water polo. Despite her physical attributes (1,68cm tall, 53 kilo), her perseverance and talent have made her one of the best Italian players in the history of water polo. She defended the colors of Lis Nova, but mostly Orizzonte Catania, with which she won 15 Italian Leagues, 5 European Cups and a Supercup.
Olympic Champion in Athens 2004, Di Mario embodies the values of “Setterosa”, the Italian National Team, which Di Mario has represented in almost 300 games. She also took part in the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and London 2012.
In the World Championships, she has won one Gold (Fukuoka 2001), one Silver and one Bronze, and was the leading goalscorer in Montreal 2005. In Europe, she has 3 continental titles, the latest being Eindhoven in 2012, were she was elected best player of the tournament.
