Men's final: the referees
A Slovenian referee and a Romanian referee will be in charge of the last match of the Barcelona 2018 European Water Polo Championships, which will be played by the men's teams of Serbia and Spain. The chosen ones are Boris Margeta and Adrian Alexandrescu, two of the most renowned referees of the Ligue Europeen de Natation (LEN).
Both have had outstanding performances throughout the competition at Picornell, but only one, the Slovenian Margeta, has directed one of the finalists, in this case the Spanish team. Margeta was the referee of the last three games played by the team of David Martin, the draw against Montenegro (7-7) and the victories against Greece (10-6) and Italy (8-7), the latter with the most polemic momento of Barcelona 2018 with eight seconds left to conclude the game.
Alexandrescu has not managed any of the teams that will participate in the final.
In total 21 referees from the countries represented in the tournament and from other neutrals such as Switzerland, Portugal, Poland and Slovenia took part in Barcelona 2018.
